These photos are part of a series called Summerland. I find them really interesting as the people in the photographs are under hypnosis and instructed to experience the most beautiful landscape imaginable.
Ben Donaldson was interested in the expressions that people have while they are internally experiencing a sublime vista while being completely unaware of the camera.
His technique of photographing each person in the same way allows the difference in each individuals emotion and gestural response more fully.
I like the way the portraiture draws attention to the expressions on the persons face, this photographic technique highlights peoples reactions. This could be an interesting way to photograph a ritual, like peoples emotional reactions while watching a movie.
