This image is part of Shafran's series Ruth on the phone. What I like about this image and the entire series is that as the viewer we are able to compare the different emotions shown as Ruth talks to different people, we are able to see if she was happy or sad but can only imagine who might be on the other end of the phone line and what might have been discussed.
People talking on the phone could be an interesting ritual to look at for this assignment. I could look at what different people do when they are on the phone, and would texting be included as being on the phone? I could also explore the different place people talk on the phone and how cellphone's effect where people are and what they are doing when they talk on the phone.
